The Kö-Galerie is an inner-city shopping and office center in Düsseldorf . It is located in Königsallee , after which it was named.
Architecture and development
The Kö-Galerie is based on the Italian “gallerie commerciali” of the 19th century, such as the Galleria Umberto I , in postmodern architecture . Four two-storey shopping streets, named after the cardinal points, lead to a 25 m high, glass-covered domed hall . The main portal on Königsallee is designed as an arcade . One of the segmental arches of the arcade, the one that lies above the main axis of the adjoining shopping arcade , has two floors. About this sheet is a glass oriel arranged with glass dome of the main cornice into a tower-like breaks through the portal to house in the attic. The Kö-Galerie has a total of 20,000 m² of retail space and 30,000 m² of office space.
The gallery opened on September 21, 1986. Walter Brune was the client and architect . In 2006 the Kö-Galerie von Brune was sold to a joint venture led by Merrill Lynch . ECE had a smaller stake in the joint venture . At the end of November 2008, the center management company Gustav announced that they wanted to completely renovate and restructure the shopping center from 2009 onwards, while operations continued. The work for around 40 million euros was largely completed in autumn 2011. The Kö-Galerie was connected to the neighboring Sevens Center shopping center at the end of 2012, integrating the neighboring house at Steinstrasse 11 . In 2014 it was sold to Allianz Real Estate for around EUR 300 million, with ECE Projektmanagement taking over the center management.

Location and traffic relations
The Kö-Galerie is located in the middle section of Königsallee between Steinstrasse and Grünstrasse. There are entrances to the three aforementioned streets as well as to Berliner Allee , where the Kö-Galerie merges into the ticket hall of the headquarters of the Stadtsparkasse Düsseldorf . There is also a connection to another passage, the “Kö-Karree”. Together with the neighboring Sevens Center shopping center , the Kö-Galerie takes up the entire street block. The Kö-Galerie also has a public car park with around 1,000 parking spaces.
use
Retail and service companies are located in the shopping center. The mix of industries includes shoes, sports, health and hardware. The textile industry takes up a large part of the area, and there is also a supermarket and catering facilities. The Kö-Galerie has around 100 shops, which can be reached from four shopping arcades and are arranged in a central hall. The building has 30,000 m² of office space with around 50 tenants. The approximately 5000 m² traffic area is used for company presentations or cultural events, among other things. A supra-regional antique market takes place in the wide aisles six times a year.
