The Sevens Center is a shopping center that opened on Königsallee in Düsseldorf in October 2000 .

Concepts

Originally, all seven floors of the building were designed as “themed floors” - hence the name “Sevens”. The renovation carried out in 2011, including the new installation of the escalator system, resulted in a far-reaching revitalization of the property. The center reopened on November 17, 2011.

The concept implemented in 2011 was developed by COMFORT Center Consulting GmbH, while CORUS Centermanagement GmbH operates the rental and center management. The redesign of the Sevens was carried out by the architects RKW Rhode Kellermann Wawrowsky , which had already won the MIPIM Award in 2001 with the design for the new shopping center .

Construction work was in progress until the start of Christmas business in 2012 to connect the shopping center with the neighboring Kö-Galerie shopping center in the interests of increasing the number of walk-in customers . As a result, the property in between at Steinstrasse 11 was structurally included.

Tenant

The electronics chain Saturn is the anchor tenant represented on floors one to five , while the so-called mall on the ground floor mainly houses fashion and lifestyle brands. There are nine restaurants and bars in the basement. Sevens now houses around 35 tenants on a retail area of around 19,000 m², including designers Philipp Plein and Giorgio Armani and a Desigual store.

Ownership

The developer and owner of the Sevens was initially Sevens Düsseldorf GbR, which belonged to DeTeImmobilien and the Westdeutsche ImmobilienBank Group . Sevens GmbH & Co. KG has owned the shopping center since 2010. This was initially held indirectly by CENTRUM Holding Deutschland GmbH (partner Uwe Reppegather) and the SIGNA-RECAP group (founder René Benko). The Sevens Center later became completely in the hands of the Signa group. In July 2015, Signa Recap sold the Sevens Center to the US real estate investment group CBRE Global Investors, an operationally independent affiliate (non-consolidated holding company) of the CBRE Group .

history

At the beginning of the 19th century, the Royal Prussian Post Office was located at today's address Königsallee 56. Attached to it were a horse changing station and an inn. In 1864 the telegraph office was relocated to the post office and the inn became the “Benrather Hof”. The building was destroyed in World War II, rebuilt around 1950 and demolished from 1994 for the construction of the Sevens. On the right and left of the main facade of the Königsallee building are sculptures by the Düsseldorf sculptor Carl Neuhaus (1881–1929). These were created in 1925 for the then newly built telephone exchange, saved when they were demolished and reassembled on the facade of the “Sevens” event department store. At the feet of the life-size, baroque figures sit small putti that communicate with each other by telephone.
