The Graf-Adolf-Platz underground station (abbreviation: Gap) is a station on the Düsseldorf Stadtbahn . It lies in the course of the third main line, the so-called Wehrhahn Line , in the Unterbilk district of the North Rhine-Westphalian state capital Düsseldorf . The preparatory work for construction of the new subway station began in 2008. It was for the shell, the cover design as a construction method used. The opening took place on February 20, 2016, and line operations began the following day.
location
The underground station was built in a central location in downtown Düsseldorf. It is located under the western end of Graf-Adolf-Platz . The structure follows the course of Elisabethstrasse .
history
With the construction of the underground line, Graf-Adolf-Platz, which is one of the most frequented places in Düsseldorf, was completely freed from tram traffic from north-south, as all five tram lines were replaced by the three underground lines. This increased independence from individual traffic and improved punctuality. Should the trunk line 6 in the direction of the port actually be built, the station would be converted into a tower station . However, no preliminary construction work is known to date.
Station complex
There are two staircases and two elevators at Graf-Adolf-Platz. There is access to the east, which is accessible via two escalators and a fixed staircase. In the western part there is another entrance through a fixed staircase right next to the swan mirror. The two elevators are located at the current tram stop to the south, one on each side of the street, which lead directly to the tracks. On the distribution level there is the possibility of using additional escalators and fixed stairs to get to the tracks on the 4.50 meter wide and 110 meter long side platforms .
A design competition was held in advance for the design of the Wehrhahn Line subway stations. The Graf-Adolf-Platz underground station was therefore designed by the artist Manuel Franke . The name of the project is "agate".
traffic
The Graf-Adolf-Platz underground station is located on the third trunk line of the Düsseldorf light rail network. Since February 21, 2016, the station has been served by all four light rail lines on this route. The above-ground tram stop will only exist for the lines running in east-west direction (Landtag / Kniebrücke - Hauptbahnhof).
The neighboring city and the north-eastern districts of Rath and Grafenberg can be reached via the line from Ratingen . The line branching off at the level of the employment agency connects the Gerresheim district . In the direction of the old town there is a connection to the Heinrich-Heine-Allee transfer point . In addition, the districts of Bilk , Volmerswerth , Wersten , Holthausen and Benrath located to the south and south-east are connected.
All light rail lines that run here are operated by the Düsseldorf Rheinbahn with low-floor light rail vehicles of the type NF8U.
