The breakpoint Dusseldorf-Bilk is a commuter train -Haltepunkt the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn in the North Rhine-Westphalian state capital Dusseldorf . It is located on the S-Bahn line on the Mönchengladbach – Düsseldorf line .
location
The stop is about two kilometers southwest of Düsseldorf Central Station at the intersection of the city districts of Bilk , Unterbilk and Friedrichstadt . It is located in an elevated position at the southern end of Friedrichstraße in a central location not far from the Düsseldorf Arcaden and many other shops.
Station facilities
The Düsseldorf-Bilk stop, which opened on April 11, 1987, was established as part of the reconstruction of the railway line between Düsseldorf and Neuss and the construction of the new S-Bahn line.
Nothing remained of the former Düsseldorf-Bilk passenger station, apart from the platform roof that was erected in 1906. The station building from the end of the 19th century was demolished in 1986. Only two columns of the historic building were initially spared from the demolition, but were also demolished in December 2007 due to the redesign of the square in front of the Düsseldorf Arcaden.
The remaining central platform is no longer on the long-distance line, but on the parallel new S-Bahn line, at the same time it was adapted to the requirements of today's S-Bahn traffic. The height of the platform was increased to 96 cm, a second entrance was created and one entrance was equipped with an inclined elevator . To the east of the platform is a five-track railway bridge over Friedrichstrasse.
The above-ground platforms of the Wehrhahn Line of the Düsseldorf Stadtbahn have been located directly north of this bridge, on Friedrichstrasse, since 2016 , to which the ramp to the underground section in the direction of Wehrhahn connects just a few meters north . Initially, it was planned to build a four-track underground station on the planned trunk lines 3 (Wehrhahn Line) and 4. The plans for the fourth trunk line were completely discarded.
Today's stop is classified by DB Station & Service in station category 4. The main entrance at the tram stop consists of a small passage with a kiosk and a bistro.
history
Simultaneously with the opening of the new Central Station (today Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof ) in 1891, the Düsseldorf-Bilk station was inaugurated. It initially had a simple central platform and a reception building.
In 1908, the passenger station was expanded with the construction of the Bilk freight station. The building was expanded and the platform was given a roof. In addition, the platform was accessed through a passenger and baggage tunnel. This was necessary because the line between Neuss and the main train station was being expanded to four tracks.
The station hardly changed until 1984, after which the major reconstruction for the S-Bahn took place. The station building was demolished, the entrance to Friedrichstrasse was rebuilt and an additional entrance was built on the west side.
Between 2010 and 2016 the area around the Bilker train station was shaped by the construction work for the Wehrhahn line. The first tunnel boring machine started there in 2010. Between 2012 and 2016, provisional bus and tram stops had to be set up in the adjacent side streets, as they could no longer stop directly in front of the train station.
Construction work and planning
The construction of a second platform on the long-distance tracks, as well as the modernization of the S-Bahn stop and the installation of an elevator were planned. After that, in addition to the S-Bahn, regional and regional express trains will stop in Düsseldorf-Bilk again. The construction work began in February 2019 and should be completed in December 2020, the cost of the renovation is planned to be 33 million euros. In the course of the work, a track is to be laid to create space for an additional platform, as well as switch work, an adaptation of the control and safety technology and noise protection measures. The work should be carried out during ongoing operations.
Lines
The station is currently served by three S-Bahn lines, four light rail lines , two bus lines, one express bus line and one night express line:
