Railway stations in North Rhine-Westphalia |
The Düsseldorf-Gerresheim train station is located about six kilometers east of Düsseldorf Central Station in the Gerresheim district of Düsseldorf . It is located on the Düsseldorf – Elberfeld railway line , is a branch station of the Düsseltalbahn and belongs to station category 5. It is also a stop for several tram and bus lines.
Location and facilities
The train station is located between the districts of Vennhausen and Gerresheim. It is in an elevated position and has a central platform and a side platform with access from Höherhofstraße and Im Brühl. In addition to the three platform tracks on the S-Bahn line, the station has five other tracks without a platform on the long-distance railway. The Düsseldorf – Elberfeld long-distance line used by regional trains is only single-track from Düsseldorf-Gerresheim to Gruiten , which is why regional express trains occasionally have to wait for oncoming trains or switch to the S-Bahn line at Düsseldorf-Gerresheim station .
In the eastern area of the station, the Düsseldorf-Derendorf-Dortmund Süd line branches off, which is also known as the Düsseltalbahn and is used by the S 28 to Mettmann Stadtwald. At the western end there is also a connecting track to the Troisdorf – Mülheim-Speldorf line , which is only used for freight traffic on this section and crosses the Düsseldorf – Elberfeld line on a bridge west of the station.
The tram stop is in a turning loop north of the railway line on the Im Brühl street.
history
The station in the southern part of the then still independent city of Gerresheim was set up in 1838 by the Düsseldorf-Elberfelder Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft as part of the construction of the 8.12 km long Düsseldorf – Erkrath section, making it one of the oldest stations in Germany. During the war in the Ruhr area , the Gerresheimer Bahnhof was a border station and, along with Benrath, one of the "main stations" for Düsseldorf. In the 1930s there were repeated clashes between political opponents and the police.
The station was important in freight traffic due to the Gerresheimer Glashütte , which was closed in 2005 and was located north of the station.
Kulturbahnhof
The Düsseldorf architects Piet Neiser and Susanne Seidel acquired the historic station building in 2011 after other local players (architect Niklaus Fritschi / Förderkreis Industriepfad Düsseldorf-Gerresheim , Bürger- und Heimatverein Gerresheim, Karl-Heinz Krems / Gerresheim-Süd) joined forces for one had used their own cultural station. The renovation work was largely completed in autumn 2013. Since then, the historic building has hosted cultural events such as readings and exhibitions. Since April 2015, the cultural program of the non-profit association Jason Rø for Art and Participation has been realigned under the curatorial direction of the Düsseldorf concept artist Carsten Reinhold Schulz in the form of an artistic intervention, under the inclusive aspects of cultural district promotion. The station catering was opened to the public again in June 2015 by the association. The facade was designed in light colors, the interior gutted in a monument-friendly manner.
The reception building from 1877 has been a listed technical monument since 2009.
Lines
The station is currently served by three lines of the S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr , one light rail and five bus lines.
