Niklaus Fritschi

Niklaus Fritschi (born January 27, 1945 in St. Gallen ) is a Swiss architect , painter and draftsman . Together with Benedikt Stahl , he maintains the Atelier Fritschi + Stahl in Düsseldorf - Gerresheim in an architectural partnership .

Life

After an apprenticeship as a draftsman, Fritschi studied architecture at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1969 to 1975 . The architects Ernst Althoff and Hans Hollein were his teachers there. With Hollein, he worked on a renovation study for a miners' colony in Recklinghausen . In 1976, Fritschi received the support award of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia for young artists for his diploma thesis, a concept for the preservation of the Eisenheim ( Oberhausen ) settlement . After working as a freelancer for Hollein, he formed a studio community with Althoff from 1979 onwards. In 1984 he founded his own architecture office. He became internationally known as an architect primarily through the Rheinuferpromenade project , which he developed around 1990 together with Benedikt Stahl and Günter Baum (* 1950). In 1991 he formed an architectural partnership with them. From 1986 to 2010 he taught at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences . In 2005 he was appointed to the Convent of Building Culture of the Federal Building Culture Foundation . At times he was a member of the design advisory board of the city of Wuppertal . Since 2014, Fritschi has been honorary chairman of the Förderkreis Industriepfad Düsseldorf-Gerresheim , whose founding chairman he was since 2007.
