After attending a concert by the Brussels ensemble “Pro Musica Antiqua” under Safford Cape , nine enthusiastic students found themselves under Ruhland's direction in Munich in 1956, who formed the “Capella Antiqua Munich”, one of the first groups to deal with Renaissance music and the Addressing early baroque music in your studies. Over time, the ensemble grew to 19 musicians and made numerous recordings.
Between 1968 and 1991 worked Ruhland on musical and modern languages St. Gotthard-Gymnasium where he lives Niederalteich . There he and his wife Elisabeth (music teacher from 1968 to 1995) played a key role in shaping the quality of the musical education and, in connection with this, the reputation of the school.
Out of his many years of musical practice in the field of historical performance practice , he founded the Niederaltaicher Scholaren in 1976, a concert choir with which he devoted himself to Gregorian chant and previously little-known works and composers.
Ruhland has made a name for itself as a scientist as well as an editor and has published several hundred works by mainly southern German composers. In addition, he passed on his knowledge in summer courses, for example at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
