Theodor Göllner

Theodor Göllner (born November 25, 1929 in Bielefeld ) is a German musicologist and was a professor at the Institute for Musicology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

Life

At the University of Heidelberg , Göllner began studying musicology with Thrasybulos Georgiades , philosophy with Hans Georg Gadamer and Latin philology of the Middle Ages with Walther Bulst .

In 1958, after completing his doctorate, he became a lecturer and from 1962 research assistant at the Institute for Musicology at the University of Munich. His habilitation took place in 1967. In the same year he received a call from the University of California, Santa Barbara, USA. In 1973 he took over the chair for musicology at the University of Munich, which he held until his retirement in 1997. Since 1972 he has been a full member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Chairman of the Music History Commission.

He has been married to the American musicologist Marie-Louise Martinez (* 1932) since 1959 .

Göllner's students include Klaus Aringer , Beatrice Ebel , Bernd Edelmann (* 1947), Carl Friedrich Jickeli, Birgit Lodes , Hans Ulrich Roth , Konrad Ruhland and Bernhold Schmid .
