The state main archive had informed the municipal administration of Forst (Lausitz) in a letter dated September 30, 2005 that in future only the coat of arms should be used for sovereign tasks (including: letterhead, official seals, documents, official signs, official printed matter and city flag). For this reason, the city arms of the city of Forst (Lausitz) had to be adapted to the new conditions.

In 2006, the district of Tschernitz tried to have a district coat of arms and a flag approved. But the Ministry of the Interior of the State of Brandenburg refused to approve this project, as the ordinance on municipal emblems does not provide for the coat of arms of a district. Thus, this coat of arms does not represent a municipal emblem. The district of Tschernitz uses or carries the coat of arms and flag exclusively for representative purposes, for reasons of identification and ties to the homeland.
