history
The first written mention of Drehnow took place in 1635, but the place name was mentioned as early as 1400. The word "dren" means red dogwood and indicates the early settlement of the Sorbs / Wends . Until the Thirty Years War the village was on a flat sand ridge near the Malxe. As a result of the constant risk of flooding, the current village was then laid out about 500 m northeast of the previous location. The former location was used for arable farming. Drehnow belonged to the Peitz office until 1832 and to the Cottbus office from 1832 to 1874.
Drehnow was since 1816 in the district of Cottbus in the Prussian province of Brandenburg (1947–1952 in the state of Brandenburg ), 1952–1990 in the district of Cottbus-Land in the GDR district of Cottbus .
