history

Willmersdorf was first mentioned in 1449 as "Wilmerstorff". The place was named after a man with the German personal name Wilmar.

Willmersdorf has always been part of the Kingdom of Prussia , between 1816 and 1945 the place was part of the Frankfurt administrative district in the Neumark sub-province . There the place was in the district of Cottbus . On July 25, 1952, Willmersdorf was assigned to the then newly formed Cottbus-Land district in the Cottbus district .

On January 1, 1974, the neighboring Lakoma was incorporated into Willmersdorf. After the reunification in the GDR , the community was in the Cottbus district in Brandenburg and was incorporated into Cottbus with the Brandenburg district reform of December 6, 1993 . The district of Lakoma was then downgraded to a residential area . Willmersdorf was sometimes also referred to as Willmersdorf-Lakoma until Lakoma was completely devastated .
