geography

Community structure
The inhabited parts of the municipality Aue (until 1937 Plonitza , in Sorbian Hugon ), village (Wjas), heath (Pódgóla) and sand (Pěski) belong to Drachhausen. Added to that come habitations Forsthaus Kiefernheide (until 1937 Dolk , Sorbian Gólnikaŕnja na Dołku ) and Forest Haus Tannenwald (Gólnikaŕnja w Škrjokach) .
history
Drachhausen was first mentioned in writing in 1504 under the name "Hoen Drußow". Other names followed in 1506 "Drochoßen", 1641 "Drachausen", 1652 "Drachhaußen", 1765 "Trachhausen" and then the current name Drachhausen. The Sorbian name is derived from ochoz and means "dealing with a piece of forest destined for settlement clearing ". The place was populated from the beginning by Sorbs, whose language and culture was widespread over the centuries and is still cultivated today. From the 16th century to 1874 Drachhausen was under the offices of Cottbus and Peitz. In 1759, during the Seven Years' War , the place burned down except for the outwork and a few barns. The old structure of the place was largely preserved due to its special location, since a fixed road connection to Cottbus was not established until 1960.
Drachhausen has belonged to the Cottbus district in the Prussian province of Brandenburg since 1816 and to the Cottbus-Land district in the GDR district of Cottbus from 1952 . The community has been in the Spree-Neisse district of Brandenburg since 1993. The community was in the "coal protection area" from 1973 to 1992 and was to give way in part to an open-cast brown coal mine.
