State flag of Saxony-Anhalt

The constitution of the state of Saxony-Anhalt , announced on July 16, 1992, stipulates in Article 1, Paragraph 2: "The state colors are yellow and black."

The national flag is determined by Section 3 of the National Emblem Act of April 27, 2017: “The national flag consists of two horizontal stripes of equal width in the national colors yellow and black and bears the national coat of arms in the middle . The ratio of the height to the length of the flag is like three to five. The national flag can be used by anyone. "

history

The province of Saxony-Anhalt passed a constitution in 1947 , in which Article 3, Paragraph 1 stipulated the state's flag as a black and yellow bicolor - similar to the flag of Baden-Württemberg , which was laid down in the constitution in 1953. In July 1952, the country was de facto dissolved as part of the administrative reform in the GDR . The Prussian province of Saxony , to which large parts of today's Saxony-Anhalt belonged, also used a black and yellow bicolor. The colors corresponded to those of Saxony and were borrowed from the black and gold divided escutcheon. As a result of the annexation of large parts of Saxony after 1815 (including the former Saxon Kurkreis), the colors were adopted by the new Prussian province. The Kingdom or the Free State of Saxony, on the other hand, have been using a white-green bicolor since 1815.

Between 1990 and 1992, the state of Saxony-Anhalt used a vertical, black and yellow bicolor in order to avoid confusion with Baden-Württemberg.

The former state flag of Saxony-Anhalt

Until April 2017, the state of Saxony-Anhalt used two flags, a state flag and a state service flag , although the use of the service flag was subject to restrictions. Due to the risk of confusion with the state of Baden-Württemberg, the black and yellow state flag without the state coat of arms was abolished by a state parliament resolution of April 5, 2017. The current national flag is the previous service flag. It is released for general use.

The national flag until 2017

The national flag was specified by the National Emblem Act of June 2, 1998. Paragraph 2, paragraph 1 read:

"The national flag consists of two vertical stripes in the national colors yellow and black."

The colors were taken from the coat of arms. Everyone was free to use the national flag.

The state service flag until 2017

The state service flag was described by the National Emblem Act of June 2, 1998. Paragraph 2, paragraph 2 stated:

"The state service flag also shows [the state flag] the state coat of arms."

Until April 2017, the use of the state service flag was reserved exclusively for authorized agencies. The unauthorized use of the state service flag constituted an administrative offense (Section 124 in the Law on Administrative Offenses of May 24, 1968). Since then, the private use of the flag is no longer subject to any restrictions.
