Established by law on May 10, 1948:

"State colors and state coats of arms are determined by a law."

“The state colors are black, red and gold .”
“The state coat of arms has the shape of the heraldic round shield. This is split by an ascending, curved tip and shows a red continuous cross in a silver field on the right, a silver six-spoke wheel in a red field on the left and a red-crowned, red-armored golden lion in the rising black tip. The coat of arms is elevated by a golden people's crown (vine leaves). ”
“ The national flag shows the colors black, red and gold in three horizontal stripes of equal width from top to bottom. In the upper corner of the pole, up to half of the red horizontal stripe, is the state coat of arms . ”
“ The state flag can be in the form of a flag, a hanging flag and a banner. ”

Today's coat of arms of the city of Ludwigshafen shows a lowered golden anchor in red.

The flag of the city of Mainz shows the figure of the city's coat of arms on a red flag cloth and is therefore a coat of arms flag.

"The coat of arms of the city of Mainz shows two six-spoke silver wheels, which are connected by a cross, on a red shield with a round bottom." The city colors are red and white.
