List of Düsseldorf light rail lines
The list of Düsseldorf light rail lines contains all lines that are operated in the light rail system of the North Rhine-Westphalian state capital Düsseldorf . This includes the eleven currently operating and one planned line. All lines are operated by the Düsseldorf Rheinbahn . The U79 line, which runs between Duisburg and Düsseldorf, is operated by the Rheinbahn in cooperation with the Duisburg transport company .
Eleven light rail lines operated in Düsseldorf in 2017. With the exception of the U71, U73, U77, U78 and U83 lines, all of them leave the Düsseldorf city area. This enables a connection with the neighboring cities of Neuss , Meerbusch , Krefeld , Duisburg and Ratingen .
The U70 line was the only one with a red line number until the 2000s . This marked it as a so-called express line in high-speed traffic between Düsseldorf and Krefeld. In the course of a change, this peculiarity was eliminated and all lines of the light rail are marked with the color blue. However, this line still does not serve all the stops along its route in order to enable a shorter journey time .
The light rail network consists of a high-floor network - with the trunk lines 1 and 2, served by the lines U70, U74, U75, U76, U77, U78 and U79 - and a low-floor network - with the Wehrhahn line , served by the lines U71, U72, U73 and U83.
In addition, two more light rail lines are currently being planned. The U80 line is planned to bypass the exhibition center along the high-floor network of trunk line 1. The U82 line is planned as an airport feeder and is currently (2019) expected to be completed in 2024 . It should be part of the main route 1 and the first part of the new main route 5 .
