The Ratingen Mitte tram stop is an above-ground station of the Düsseldorf tram in the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Ratingen . The Ratingen Mitte tram stop is, as the name suggests, in the center of Ratingen, more precisely on Düsseldorfer Platz. As the central downtown point, the market is about 350 m as the crow flies to the north and can be reached via a 400-meter long footpath. It is therefore the central stop in Ratingen and at the same time an important transfer stop, especially from buses to the tram in the direction of Düsseldorf.

modification

According to the NVP , Ratingen Mitte is the most frequented transfer stop in the Mettmann district, with 5,756 people getting on and off, 2,333 of them transferring. Every day passengers change between buses or take the tram to Düsseldorf. However, the Ratingen Mitte stop was very confusing with its stops spread across the area. In addition, the tram stop was not barrier-free. Since the previous tram line 712 was converted into a barrier-free urban railway line U72 as part of the construction of the Wehrhahn line , the stop had to be made barrier-free.

The first plans were made in 2012. Finally, the renovation began on October 4th, 2016. It was originally supposed to take 1 year.

On May 19, 2018, with a delay of over 7 months, the new barrier-free hub was opened. The construction costs should have totaled 14.9 million euros. The bus station was redesigned in three sawtooth bus platforms. As a result, bus traffic in the direction of Lintorf, West and Tiefenbroich in particular can be handled better and, at the same time, the buses in the direction of Ostbahnhof stop one behind the other at a long island. The tram's turning loop was retained.
