In Eggerscheidt there is the Gräfgenstein Castle (also: Grevensteyne, Grifgenstein etc.), a former knight's seat that was first mentioned in 1254. The castle with a four-story tower belonged to the Knights of Eggerscheidt (Eckerscheyd) (1254), von Landsberg (1443), von der Haus (15th century), von der Recke / von Ascheberg (until 1532), among others Gogreven (1532 to 1598), von der Horst / von Binsfeld (since 1598), von Wachtendonck, Gaddum, von Hochsteden (since 1750), von Zweiffel and the Counts of Spee .

Until December 31, 1974 Eggerscheidt was an independent municipality in the Angerland office . Together with most of the other municipalities of the office, it was merged on January 1, 1975 with the city of Ratingen and the municipality of Homberg-Meiersberg to form the new city of Ratingen due to the Düsseldorf Act .
