The Schloß Broich underground station is a tram stop in Mülheim an der Ruhr . It is operated by the Duisburg Stadtbahn and the Mülheim an der Ruhr tram . It lies in the course of the Stadtbahn section of the Schloß Broich – Mülheim Hbf.
Contrary to the 1996 reform of the German spelling, the name of the station is still officially spelled with ß .
history
Before the underground route was opened, the above-ground route was led over the castle bridge, directly past Broich castle , to Duisburger Strasse. Each of the tram lines served a further stop ( Princess-Luise-Straße, line 102, and Rosendahl, line 901), which are only served by bus lines after the underground line has gone into operation.
Originally, the underground station - like the neighboring Mülheim Stadtmitte underground station - was also intended to be a stop for the U 18 light rail line . Therefore, it was planned with elevated platforms, which were also built. Since a mixed operation of trams and light rail vehicles was planned, the platforms were designed as mixed platforms with a high-floor and a low-floor section. The original high-floor platforms were long enough to stop the U 18. When building the light rail, however, it was decided to use longer low-floor vehicles on lines 102 and 901, so that the elevated platforms were shortened during construction. This meant that the U 18 could no longer stop in the usual double traction .
location
The stop is located east of the city center in the Broich district , directly on the Ruhr . Various cultural institutions and facilities, in particular Broich Castle, which gives it its name, are within walking distance. A little further behind the castle is the roundhouse , an industrial monument that was converted into a leisure facility in the early 1990s. The stop is also on the B 223 .
Not far is the Mülheim-Broich station, which was closed in 1968 and dismantled in 1982 and was served by the former Mülheim-Broich – Kettwig and Mülheim-Broich – Mülheim-Speldorf railway lines.
Connection
The underground station is served by tram lines 102 ( Ruhrbahn ) and 901 ( DVG ). These have a connection to the rest of the tram network at the Mülheim Stadtmitte underground station, and to the U 18 at the main station. The two tram lines only stop at the low-floor platform of the mixed high-floor and low-floor platform.
