Lichtenbroich is one of the 50 districts of Düsseldorf and is now part of the 6th district . Lichtenbroich was first mentioned in a document in 1193. In 1909 Lichtenbroich was incorporated into Düsseldorf.

location

To the north of Lichtenbroich are the Lohausen district and Tiefenbroich, a district of the city of Ratingen , to the northeast . In the east lies Ratingen-West , also a district of Ratingen. In the south is the Unterrath district of Düsseldorf . Lichtenbroich is bordered to the west by Düsseldorf Airport , which is part of the Lohausen district.

history

Centuries ago, the Rhine, whose bed found its way through the area, made for a swampy area with recurring floods. The name Lichtenbroich (in Platt "Leetebrok" or "Letbrok") probably goes back to the formerly swampy and very lightly overgrown area. In a description from the 15th century, Kaiserswerd, Calchem (Kalkum) as well as Lichtenbroick were given to the information for the "Weisthum der Ickter Mark" . The area or parts of the Mark, in which Lichtenbroich was located, probably belonged to the area of the Motte Ickt at that time .

In the Middle Ages and the subsequent modern era until the end of the 19th century, the area was hardly populated. Since both aristocratic courts and larger estates or farms were apparently missing, no documents or written records are known to date. In the investigations by "Stahl 1817", "Mindel 1828" and "JG von Viebahn 1836" on the subdivision and localities of the Düsseldorf administrative district, Lichtenbroich was not mentioned as a hamlet or with the name of a farm under Kaiserswerth, Ratingen, Rath or Düsseldorf. Settlement worth mentioning obviously only began with the settlement of industrial companies in the surrounding towns at the end of the 19th century. Even in the early 20th century there was still no trace of industrial or settlement areas in Lichtenbroich. After the Second World War, the blocks of flats grew in the open, so displaced people from Pomerania, East and West Prussia found a new home here, and Lichtenbroich was also considered an immigration area for young families. A large residential estate now contrasts with the former post office estate.

Demographics

As of December 31, 2014 Lichtenbroich has approx. 5,434 inhabitants, with 2,744 women and 2,690 men, including approx. 924 non-German citizens. 1,654 residents belong to the 18 to 45 age group. The average age of around 40 years is slightly below the average for the urban area. Lichtenbroich has 2,430 private households, including 847 single households, the latter corresponds to 34.9%. Of the 65.1% multi-person households, 171 are accordingly around 7% households with 5 or more people. Most of the 1,002 residential buildings are 801 single and two-family houses and only 201 are multi-family houses. Of the total area of the district, around 12% is commercial space, around 10% residential space and around 7% green, agricultural and forestry areas. The proportion of traffic areas is unusually high at around 16% and is therefore around twice as high as in the entire city area. The population development has increased somewhat since 2005, but has decreased by around 200 people since 2010. The share of unemployed is around 5.4%.

politics

Lichtenbroich belongs to the city district 6. Each city district has a district council , which consists of 19 members. The chairman of the district council, the district head, is determined by a local election . Jürgen Buschhüter currently holds this position.

Culture and sights

Matthias Church

On December 2, 1992, a group of ten people founded the Leetebrok Festival and Support Association. Every year on May 1st, it celebrates a big May festival with junk on the meadow between the Bockumer and Wittlarer Weg. The association has set itself the goal of promoting the cultural life of the district by organizing events and supporting the coexistence and community of the people in Lichtenbroich. This applies, among other things, to work with young people and senior citizens and to fellow citizens in need. The financial basis for these tasks is to create donations and income from festive events. A first big step was taken with the organization of the 800th anniversary celebration in June 1993, which took place under the motto "Hello, neighbors", lasted over four days and was remembered by the residents for a long time. The street festivals and flea markets organized by the association are very well received by the residents of the district and beyond its borders. The income generated in this way could be used, for example, to purchase materials for a kindergarten, to help finance the establishment of a youth club and a school garden, as well as trips for senior citizens. The St. Martin train in Lichtenbroich is now also being organized by the Leetebrok Association with the help of numerous volunteers.

Churches
Catholic Church of St. Mary Queen

Three churches of different faiths are represented in Lichtenbroich. The Catholic Church of St. Maria Königin belongs to the Deanery North Düsseldorf. The Matthias Church is a Protestant church and belongs to the Düsseldorf Church District Association. There is also a Serbian Orthodox Church .

There are no secondary schools, but they can be reached by short distances through the surrounding districts. There is also a Catholic and a non-denominational youth center.

freetime and sports

Lichtenbroich Baggersee

Not far from the village is the recreational area of Ratingen, the Green Lake. Due to the large catchment area, this is always very well attended and not only invites you to barbecue, but also offers a surf school and pedal boat rental. To the north, Lichtenbroich is surrounded by Forstbusch, a forest that offers the necessary greenery. There is also the Lichtenbroich Baggersee, which is used by a sports club for fishing and boating. The new ice rink of the Düsseldorf ice hockey club Düsseldorfer EG is located in the neighboring district of Rath . This was inaugurated on September 2, 2006. The sports hall at ASC Ratingen is also well-known and is often used for handball games. In Lichtenbroich itself there is a sports hall with an associated soccer field, which is regularly used by the SGU (Sport Community Unterrath) and local sports clubs. A fitness center and smaller bowling alleys are also available. Recently an artificial stream that leads into the "Kittelbach" was created. The stream serves primarily as a rain catcher and does not always carry water.

Shopping centers / restaurants

In Lichtenbroich there is a small shopping center that faces competition from very large markets and shopping chains in the vicinity. Lichtenbroich also serves the local pub culture and mainly serves the top-fermented Altbier .

Economy and Infrastructure

In the north of Lichtenbroich there is a large industrial area. Several telecommunications providers, aircraft companies, car companies and fashion companies have settled here. A large hardware store opened here a few years ago. One of the locational advantages of the resident companies is the excellent infrastructure, including the convenient location on the A 44 and A 52 motorways and the proximity of the airport and the Düsseldorf exhibition center .

On the northeastern edge is the Düsseldorf Airport train station , where even ICE and EC / IC trains stop. It is also the final stop of the bus lines SB 51 to Kaarst , 729 to Theodor-Heuss-Brücke , 759 to Ratingen Ost and 776 to Mörsenbroich .
