Ludenberg is a district of Düsseldorf , bordering Grafenberg , Gerresheim , Hubbelrath , Mörsenbroich and Rath . Although it is 6.26 km² in size, Ludenberg only has around 8,100 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2016). The district is characterized by forests and agricultural areas in a hilly landscape. Ludenberg has no center and the numerous housing estates are far apart. Since they are also often directly adjacent to the neighboring districts, the built-up areas are usually wrongly assigned to the districts of Grafenberg, Gerresheim or Mörsenbroich in the general perception. The Ludenberg district itself is unknown to many Düsseldorf residents, although parts of Ludenberg are among the most expensive residential areas in the state capital and here are the famous Kastanienallee, the racecourse, the Rochusclub and the Rheinische Landeskliniken (often mistakenly attributed to Grafenberg ).

Ludenberg is one of the richest districts in Düsseldorf. The average annual income here is 66,506 euros (as of December 31, 2007).

history

Until the beginning of the 19th century, Ludenberg belonged to the mayor's office of Gerresheim. In addition to Ludenberg, Morp, Vennhausen , Erkrath , Unterbach , Dorp and Bruchhausen were also managed by Gerresheim. The mayor's office had a total of around 2,500 residents. When Gerresheim was divided into a town and a rural municipality in 1852, the rural municipality became the independent municipality of Ludenberg with its own mayor. In 1909 Ludenberg, like Gerresheim, was incorporated into Düsseldorf.

Development

One of the few residential complexes "An der Kaiserburg"

Ludenberg is predominantly characterized by loose single-family house development, with a variety of styles from the last 150 years, from the semi-detached house to the detached villa and castle-like complexes. Occasionally there are apartment buildings, most of which are owner-occupied apartments for users with high demands. There is practically no industry or trade. Larger public institutions are the deaf school on Gräulinger Straße and the LVR-Klinikum Düsseldorf on Bergische Landstraße. Otherwise there are a few buildings and areas that are used for office purposes. There are residential complexes around the Gallberg as well as the residential complexes on the streets Am Gieb, An den Buchen and above all the Rotthäuser Weg. A social building project near Blanckertzstraße was set up in 2006 to enable socially disadvantaged families to live in Ludenberg.
