history

After passenger aviation had increased more and more at the original airfield in Düsseldorf-Lohausen (today Düsseldorf Airport ) and this was consequently banned for gliding, the association moved to the area of the military training area at Aaper Wald in the mid-1950s. In 1987 a hangar was built to accommodate the aircraft and the take-off winch.

In 2011, due to plans by the BImA to sell the site, there was no flight operation on Wolfsaap and the club had to switch to the airfield of a friendly club. With the help of the local residents and over 14,000 collected signatures, the sale was averted and the site was again designated for local recreation. At the beginning of 2012 the glider pilots also came back.

societies

Flight operations and training are organized by the members of the gliding department of the Düsseldorf Aero Club.

There are six aircraft available to members: three double and three single-seaters. An ASK 21 , an LS4 and the Ka 8b are mainly used for training. A two-seater Janus C and a single-seater motor glider of the Discus 2c FES type are available for high-performance flights .

The start is made with a Tost double drum winch with a rope length of 1100 m each.
