Pholcus ( Latinization from Greek φολκός ( pholkós ) " bow- legged") is a genus from the family of the trembling spiders (Pholcidae) and includes 329 species . (As of June 2016)
Occurrence and habitat
The genus Pholcus is mainly found in warmer climates. They are rich in species in China , in Central and Southeast Asia , in Asia Minor , and still represented in Australia , Africa , America . In Switzerland, Austria and Germany, the cosmopolitan , cave-dwelling great trembling spider ( Pholcus phalangioides ) and the rarer Pholcus opilionides , which predominantly live in the open land of the Holarctic (not found in Euocean areas), are common. As cultural followers , they feel very comfortable in human dwellings.

They are 4 to 15 mm tall (body type like the family). Within the genus, u. a. Color, size and the drawing of the abdomen are used as a characteristic. The animals are perennial and can live up to 3 years old. Their posture can also provide information about the species.
Way of life
They build diffuse, glue-free space nets in which they lurk upside down for prey at night . The wool of these ecribellate spiders is strongly adhesive due to its physical structure alone . Your catch wool is extremely elastic and adapted to warmer or more humid climates.
