Max G. Lagally

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Max G. Lagally (* 1942 ) is an American physicist .

Lagally received the BS in physics in 1963 at the Pennsylvania State University , the MS in 1965 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison , where he also three years later the Ph.D. made. He then spent two years as a postdoc at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society in Berlin . In 1970 he returned to the University of Wisconsin, where he is professor of physics to this day. In 1973 he received a research grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation ( Sloan Research Fellowship ). In 1980 he became a Fellow of the American Physical Society .

Lagally's research deals with structural disturbances (order-disorder-states) of surfaces, interfaces and thin layers. Furthermore, he is dedicated to researching microscopic mechanisms of crystal growth and the effects on physical properties as well as researching the phenomena of epitaxy and diffusion on semiconductor surfaces (surface roughness, step structures).

His work has been cited more than 11,000 times worldwide.
