The station Remagen is the train station of the city of Remagen on the West Rhine Railway . It belongs to station category 3. Regional , IC , EC and, since the beginning of the 2020 timetable, ICE trains stop for the first time at the edge of the day at Remagen railway station . It is also the start and end point of the Ahr Valley Railway and functions as a central hub and long-distance traffic stop for the Ahrweiler district .
history
When the left Rhine route from Cologne to Bonn to Koblenz was extended, the Remagen train station was built. It was first approached in 1858, but the station building was not built until 1860. Since September 17, 1880, it has been the start and end point of the Ahr Valley Railway. It was renovated in the 1930s.
In 1958, the section from Remagen to Mainz was electrified . However, the traction change initially took place in the Koblenz main train station , as the Remagen train station's capacity was insufficient. In the following year, the northern section from Remagen to Cologne was finally put into electrical operation.
Renovation work was also carried out in 2007 and 2008. Since December 14, 2008 it has been served by the private railway company trans regio for the first time .
The station has been extensively modernized again since 2017. So that the new RRX multiple units and, for the first time, ICE trains can also stop at Remagen station, the remaining platforms on tracks 1, 2 and 3 will be increased to 76 centimeters and made barrier-free by 2020 (after several delays). The extensive renovation package also includes new or modernized roofs, a restored underpass and the installation of additional points for more flexible train maneuvering.
construction
The station Remagen has a reception building, a in the DB - Travel Center and ticket machines are located. There are food vending machines on tracks 2 and 3 and in the reception building . In the course of restoration work in 2008, the platform roofs were renewed and on the tracks new LCD - destination displays mounted. Each platform has an elevator that enables barrier-free access for wheelchair users. Track 5 is used exclusively for the Ahr Valley Railway (RB 39), which ends in Remagen, to and from Dernau .
A special feature is the cast-iron vestibule of the station, it is not anchored to the building, but stands on its own two feet. The hall originally comes from Bonn, where it was dismantled when the Bonn Central Station was rebuilt in 1883/84 and then re-erected in Remagen. The hall is therefore older than the train station itself.
Since March 21, 2009, Remagen train station has had a DB Service Store with access via the main platform and the reception building.
