The Sechtem station is the station of Sechtem , a district of the municipality Bornheim in the Rhineland . It is located on the left-hand Rhine route Cologne - Koblenz - Mainz and has three platform tracks . According to Deutsche Bahn AG, the station corresponds to station category 6.

history

The Sechtem stop was completed at the beginning of 1844 by the Bonn-Cölner Eisenbahn (BCE) and officially put into operation on February 13 of the same year with a fixed trip for the shareholders of the Bonn-Cölner Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft . Originally the railway was supposed to run directly through the town, but this was prevented by the then mayor Clemens Müller . Among other things, he feared that the thatched-roof houses would be set on fire by the flying sparks of the locomotives or that they could collapse as a result of the vibrations caused by the train.

Four years after the railway line was opened, a goods shed was built in 1848 . This goods shed is the oldest surviving railway building from this period. He was awarded by the Eisenbahn-Amateur-Club Bonn / Sechtem e. V. acquired by the city of Bornheim in 2001 and extensively renovated between 2002 and 2009 and converted into a club home. The building is also a listed building .

In 2002/2003, some of the station scenes from the movie " The Miracle of Bern " were shot at Sechtem station.

In December 2008, trans regio took over the Cologne - Koblenz - Mainz regional railways and, for the first time in years, offered continuous local transport connections between Cologne and Mainz.

The Sechtem train station was rebuilt to be barrier-free and completely modernized by 2010 . Since then, it has had an underpass , an elevator and elevated platforms, which offer barrier-free entry and exit on the trains.

In December 2015 the regional train line RB 48 ( Rhein-Wupper-Bahn ) went from Bonn-Mehlem via Cologne to Wuppertal to the new operator National Express . This replaced DB Regio .

Transport links

Sechtem is in the tariff area of the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg (VRS). There is a good connection to the main train stations in Cologne and Bonn via the regional trains that run here .

The Sechtem station is also used today by many commuters from the surrounding towns as an access point for rail traffic.
