Heimersheim is a district and local district of the city of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler in the Ahrweiler district in Rhineland-Palatinate . The district of Heimersheim also includes the district of Ehlingen . Until 1969 Heimersheim was an independent municipality.

history

The townscape of Heimersheims is characterized by the course of the old fortification. Wall, double hedge and two wooden or trap gates are attested for 1426 . Particularly endangered by its strategic location near the Rhine , Heimersheim received the fortification with gate and tower as early as the 15th century, possibly earlier. Remains of the fortifications from the late Gothic period are preserved at the west gate and the old bakehouse . In the 16th century a warm sour well was uncovered near Heimersheim , a spring that was used for drinking around 1830. In 1855 there were two wells in Heimersheim, but the usage rights were given to Neuenahr and could not be regained later. In July 1646 Heimersheim was occupied and looted by Weimar troops ( Weimaraner ) during the Thirty Years' War .

The late Romanesque parish church of St. Mauritius in the basilica style with its strong, eight-sided crossing tower as the core belongs to the transition period of the first half of the 13th century and is Heimersheim's main attraction. Damaged in 1555 by severe fire damage and renewed in 1784 and 1881, the church stands out with its stained glass from the 13th century, with an altar carrying the cross from 1599 and a grave slab made of trachyte from 1550. In 1961/62 an extension was added harmoniously.

On June 7, 1969, the previously independent municipality was incorporated into the simultaneously newly formed town of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler.
