The Ahrtal bridge is connected to 1521 m the longest bridge of Bundesautobahn 61 .

The structure is located at motorway kilometers 186.5 between the motorway triangles Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler and Sinzig in Rhineland-Palatinate . It spans between Bad Neuenahr and Heimersheim at a maximum height of 54 m with 22 fields over the Ahr valley with the Ahr , a western tributary of the Rhine , as well as the Ahr valley railway ( Remagen - Ahrbrück ), the federal road 266 ( Linz am Rhein - Ahrweiler), the state road 80 and some local roads. In addition, the headwaters of the Apollinaris fountain systems are crossed.

In the course of the bridge, the motorway is straight in plan and has a longitudinal gradient of a maximum of 2.7%. The overpass was built with two separate superstructures for the one-way carriageway between 1973 and 1976; the construction costs amounted to 55 million German marks .

construction

The two adjacent, 1521.2 m long superstructures of the prestressed concrete girder bridge have the continuous girder as a structural system in the longitudinal direction , whereby an expansion joint on a separating pillar divides this into two sections with eleven fields each. The northern section has spans of 75.1 m, 78.0 m, 106.0 m, 6 × 78.0 m, 106.0 m and 77.1 m, the southern 3 × 65.0 m, 7 × 53.3 m and 42.9 m.

In the transverse direction, the superstructures are designed as single-cell box girder cross-sections. The construction height is 4.0 m in the southern part and 5.5 m in the north with the large spans. The floor slab is 7.2 m wide and 15 cm thick and the deck slab 15.1 m wide and 24 cm thick. The prestressing consists of internal tendons in the longitudinal direction .

The reinforced concrete pillars are designed as 6.0 m wide pillar discs. With a lateral draw of around 1:80, they have a dimension of 3.2 m in the longitudinal direction of the bridge at the pier head.

Construction work

Since no auxiliary supports were permitted between the pillars, a 170 m long telescopic tower with a mass of 2000 t was used to construct the superstructures . The main girders of the scaffolding were arranged above the roadway. First of all, the eastern superstructure from the Koblenz abutment was erected within eleven months. After the return transport and lateral shifting, the western superstructure followed in eight months of construction. 85,000 m³ of concrete, 1,800 t of prestressing steel and 7,000 t of reinforcing steel were installed on the bridge .
