geography

Ramersbach is located approx. 8 km south of the core city districts of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler at the intersection of state roads 84 and 85 and is the highest geographically (the topographically highest point is called " little house " at an altitude of 506.5  m above sea  level ), but historically youngest district of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler.

From Ramersbach, if the weather permits, both the Petersberg in the Siebengebirge and the Cologne Cathedral can be seen from one point .

history

Ramersbach was mentioned for the first time as a border place of a ban forest , which King Otto III. on March 19, 992 assigned to his faithful, the brothers Sigebodo and Richwin. The Cologne Archbishop Arnold I. confirmed in 1143 the nunnery of St. Mary ( Nonnenwerth the possession of goods and) hearing to Ramersbach.

In 1735 there was a major fire in the village, which also partially destroyed the church. According to a visitation report from 1762, the church had not yet been restored. There was already a school but no school house, and lessons were given in an inn.

Ramersbach belonged to the duchy of Jülich ( Amt Neuenahr ) until the end of the 18th century ; during the so-called French era , Ramersbach was assigned to the canton of Wehr in the Rhine-Moselle department from 1798 to 1814 and after it was taken over by the Kingdom of Prussia (1815) from 1816 to the mayor Königsfeld newly formed in the then district Ahrweiler the administrative district of Coblenz .

There is evidence that Ramersbach owned a small chapel that was dedicated to St. Barbara in the 14th century . Today's Catholic parish church of St. Barbara on Hauptstrasse dates from 1907/08 and was designed by the Trier architect Peter Marx . It is the only pure Art Nouveau church in the entire diocese of Trier . All around the church, crosses and tombs from the old church cemetery are set into the church wall. In the years 2008 to 2010, this church wall was extensively repaired to complete the redesign of the village square.

Until 1974, the then independent local community Ramersbach belonged to the Brohltal community . Only after the rebuilding of the city of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler (1969) was the place incorporated into Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler on March 16, 1974. You can still see this change on the phone code (02646, Königsfeld area code) (Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler: 02641).
