Bad Bodendorf is a district and local district of Sinzig in the Ahrweiler district in Rhineland-Palatinate . The health resort is often referred to as the “gateway to the Ahr valley” . Bodendorf has been incorporated into the town of Sinzig since 1969 and in 1972 was given the title "Bad" . This title was revoked in 2013, whereupon the place was renamed and the "Bad" now continues as part of the place name.

geography

location

Bad Bodendorf lies on the lower course of the Ahr in the valley. In the north and south it is surrounded by the hills, to the northwest lies the Reisberg and southwest the Mühlenberg, which form a last narrow point in front of the Rhine Valley.

Together with its neighbors Bad Neuenahr ("Bad" since 1927) and Bad Breisig ("Bad" since 1958) the village forms the bath triangle of the Ahrweiler district.

structure

Bad Bodendorf is divided into three parts:

  1. The old core village with new development areas to the west (→ Sonnenberg) and east. The area of the core village is now bordered by federal highway 266 . Before that, the parallel railway line was a natural boundary. The St. Sebastianus Primary School east of the old core was surrounded by fields when it was built. Before the main road was built, all traffic in the Ahr valley flowed through the center of the village.
  2. The spa area, which extends south of the Ahr. It was created in the 1920s and today has grown far beyond the original spa facilities.
  1. Between the Ahr and the main road there is an area of former fields, on which individual houses, back then often pensions , were built starting in the 1930s . This was developed in the 1960s and has a striking development gap to the south of the Ahr. In this area on the Ahr are the sports and tennis courts of the village.

Neighboring communities

To the west of the valley, Bodendorf borders on Lohrsdorf and Green . In the east it borders on the core city of Sinzig.

history

Bodendorf is documented in 893 as "budendorpht" in the Prümer Urbar . It is controversial whether it is identical to the location "Bodovilla" in the document of the Merovingian King Sigibert III. of September 3, 643 is.

From the 12th century onwards there are numerous documented mentions of the place. Bodendorf learned its early importance from the fact that the coronation road (also known as Aachen-Frankfurter Heerstraße ) went from Frankfurt to Aachen through the village . The Heerstraße led from the Ahr Valley to the Grafschafter Heights and into the northern Eifel . Although the course of the Heerstraße has often changed slightly over the centuries, it led from Sinzig through Bodendorf for centuries.

From 1478 to 1794 (occupation of the Rhineland by French troops) Bodendorf belonged to the imperial rule of Landskron . This period can be divided into a Saffenberg epoch (1200–1450), the Quadsche epoch (1450–1621) and the epoch up to the French period . In 1485 two village gates are mentioned, in 1670 the ditch with double hedge.

In 1666 the plague hit Bodendorf and 125 inhabitants died. This is said to have been around a third of the population.

Up to the secularization by the French in 1804, 19 different external spiritual owners are recorded in Bodendorf. After 1200 there are further records of secular ownership rights known by name, up to 1804 there were more than 50 documents. The Ahr valley was therefore a very traditional wine-growing region. In the wake of the Congress of Vienna , the former territories on the Rhine came to Prussia in 1815 . These have been grouped together in the Prussian Rhine Province since 1822 . Under the Prussian administration, Bodendorf became an independent municipality that was assigned to the mayor's office in Remagen (renamed Amt Remagen in 1927) in the Ahrweiler district . Since strong phylloxera infestation was reported in almost all vineyards up to 1902 , the positive development of viticulture was reversed. The last harvest was brought in in 1968. Activities to reactivate the vineyards are currently underway.

From 1900 thermal springs were drilled, which gave Bodendorf the title "Bad" in 1972. This development was favored by the opening of the Ahr Valley Railway in 1880 . The 26 ° C warm springs still feed the Bad Bodendorf thermal swimming pool today . In 2013, the district was revoked by the then tourism minister Lemke due to the lack of requirements.

As part of the Rhineland-Palatinate administrative and territorial reform that began in the mid-1960s, Bodendorf was incorporated into the town of Sinzig on June 7, 1969.
