Sinzig is the most populous local district and the core area of the same city Sinzig in the district of Ahrweiler of Rhineland-Palatinate .

location

The district is located in the lower Ahr valley on the left bank of the Lower Middle Rhine region two kilometers west of the river. It is bounded to the east by the Rhine, otherwise it is surrounded by mountains that belong to the Eastern Eifel . To the west of the center rises the Hellenberg ( 143  m above sea  level ), south of the Wadenberg ( 138.7  m above sea level ).

The district of Sinzig includes the Forsthaus Dachsbach , Godenhaus , Harbachsmühle , Hennes-Schneider-Haus , Hombüchel and Schloss Ahrenthal residential areas .

In the course of the regional reform of Rhineland-Palatinate, the previously independent communities Bodendorf (then 1,668 inhabitants), Franconia (373), Koisdorf (365), Löhndorf (939) and Westum (1060) were incorporated into the city of Sinzig on June 7, 1969 .

While a local district was set up for each of the five incorporated towns, this did not take place for Sinzig himself until August 1989 after a corresponding decision in the city council.

District

Sinzig is one of six local districts of the city and includes the area of ​​Sinzig before the incorporation in 1969. The district is politically represented by a local advisory board and a local mayor .

Local advisory board

The local council consists of 13 members, who were elected in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a personalized proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Mayor

Gunter Windheuser (FWG) became mayor of Sinzig in August 2014. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in his office for another five years with a share of 79.77% of the votes.

Windheuser's predecessor, Silvia Mühl, held the office from 2009 to 2014.
