St. Peter in Westum
|
Westum is a district of Sinzig in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Ahrweiler . The Beulerhof and Nikolaushof residential areas belong to Westum .
Westum is commonly called "Murreland", in High German as much as "Möhrenland" or "Karottenland", because since then it was no longer possible to grow wine in Westum due to poor conditions, and vegetables and mainly carrots were grown. Also derived from this is the derisive name for the inhabitants of Westum, which, however, has developed into a folkloristic name of their own, "Murreköpp", which means something like "carrot heads".
