particularities
The competition “ Our village should become more beautiful ” was won in 1997. Löhndorf has been a member of the Rosendörfer group since 2004 . The work of artists who deal with paper, wood, paint, glass and stone shape the townscape.
history
A grave site from the 3rd century indicates a hamlet or villa rustica in the area of today's Löhndorf. Despite the Limes in the vicinity, there was probably no uninterrupted settlement during the Roman period. A Franconian grave discovered in the previous century indicates that settlement began in the 6th century. Gut Vehn , located not far from the village, was first mentioned in 1019 with its church, fields, vineyards and forests, while Löhndorf did not appear in documents until 1227 as Lündorp.
The field names Auf Gruben Holl or In der Oberste Grube and similar names shown in the original cadastre are an indication of ore mining in this area, which is also mentioned by Theophile Calmelet in the Rheinisches Antiquarius in connection with Löhndorf. In 1729, the profit of the Lehnendahl mine, which was located in the Löhndorfer area, is broken down in an electoral account. The Henriette iron stone mine, which also belonged to Löhndorf, was licensed in 1819.
On June 7, 1969, the community of Löhndorf was incorporated into the city of Sinzig as part of the regional reform. In the same year the Löhndorfer Loan Association was dissolved.
Parish
The parish emerged from the knight seat Vehn. In the 16th century Löhndorf consisted of only four farms and was spiritually cared for by the Vehner pastor. In 1684 the Löhndorfer church is called a branch church of the mother church Vehn. After that, only the church in Löhndorf remains while that of Vehn falls into disrepair. The parish has been part of the Remagen Parish Association since 1981. The rectory, built in 1852, enables a lively cultural community life.
church
A first chapel from 1266 was followed by another, which was consecrated to St. George in 1668 and consecrated in 1743 . In 1820 services were held in the ossuary on the cemetery.
Collections made from 1826 onwards made it possible to lay the foundation stone for a new church in 1829. The new church was consecrated after its completion in 1833 and consecrated in 1834. The church building is made of local quarry stone, the interior is plastered and the outer facade is grouted. The building was thoroughly refurbished and embellished in 1938. The church roof was renovated from 2011 to 2014.
The cemetery, initially arranged around the church, was rebuilt in 1858 on what was then the eastern edge of the village.
school
The education of the Löhndorfer children has been proven since 1696. Since 1970, primary school children have been taught in the neighboring municipality of Westum and, after primary school, in the surrounding towns. The first school building, a half-timbered house, was built in 1763 according to the inscription in the lintel. In 1971 the Rheinisches Freilichtmuseum in Kommern took over the building and built it together with the integrated Backes on their museum grounds. The former elementary school, built in 1844, was converted into a village community center and is available to various associations and citizens.
