Rose city

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rose city is an epithet of several cities.

Germany

Like Rosenkreis and Rosendorf , the term Rosenstadt is a term used in Germany by the Gesellschaft Deutscher Rosenfreunde e. V. (short: GRF, until 2007 Verein Deutscher Rosenfreunde, short: VDR ) is awarded. In order to be able to name the name Rosenstadt, Rosenkreis or Rosendorf , the rose must be present and cared for as a “defining part of the town”. Often a rose queen or rose princess is chosen as a symbol and ambassador for the place.

The term is not protected by trademark law, so that cities and municipalities could attach this title without the consent of the Society of German Rose Friends.

Oscar Scheerer (1906–1971), at that time garden director of the rose garden in Zweibrücken and president of the VDR, had the idea in 1955 as part of the campaign Our village should become more beautiful .

Outside of Germany

Outside Germany, the Swiss cities of Bischofszell and Rapperswil , among others, market themselves as cities of roses, as well as the Moroccan city of El-Kelâa M'Gouna and the Albanian Përmet .

In Switzerland , the rose gardens in Rapperswil near the Fischmarktplatz on Lake Zurich , which were set up from 1913 onwards, are worth mentioning , followed by further plantings on the lakeshore in the early 1920s and on streets and squares in the densely built-up old town . Rose gardens in the real sense followed around 1965 a. a. at the hermitage in the former orchard of the Capuchin monastery. A cross-national specialty is the fragrant rose garden for the visually impaired in the city center, which was planted in 1984 with around 1,500 roses from 75 types of scent, which are consistently signposted with Braille and normal writing. Between June and October a total of around 15,000 hybrid tea roses, polyantha and shrub roses bloom in the gardens and alleys of the rose city.
