The Ahr cycle path is a cycle path that leads from the source of the Ahr in Blankenheim ( Eifel ) along the Ahr to its confluence with the Rhine at Remagen-Kripp . Some sections are railway cycle path . The route starts in the middle of the Eifel and initially leads through a valley landscape with wide bends in the river. From the village of Schuld the Ahr valley becomes narrower and loops around the place. In Altenahr , slopes and rocks have moved close to the river and offer the best conditions for the viticulture that is now beginning . Behind the spa town of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler , the Ahr reaches the wide delta that flows into the Rhine. The cycle route is easily manageable by recreational cyclists. The route is uniformly marked with the bike path logo.

Route

Blankenheim - guilt

The source of the Ahr ( 50 ° 26 ′ 17 ″  N , 6 ° 38 ′ 58 ″  E ) is in the basement of a half-timbered house in the center of Blankenheim . The route leads below the village on the route of the disused Ahrdorf – Blankenheim railway line . The section is either paved or well graveled. Since the route is no longer completely available, the cycle path is routed several times over ramps and through-roads. After Blankenheim you pass Ahrhütte before you reach Ahrdorf . There the route connects to the Kalkeifel cycle path , which connects to the Kylltal . From the Kalkeifel cycle path, the mineral spring route turns off at Niederehe and leads to the Maare-Mosel cycle path at Daun .

The route leads through a varied landscape with meadows, forests and deep valley cuts via Antweiler to Fuchshofen . From here to Schuld then, because of the not yet finished cycle path, about five kilometers are to be covered on the country road.

(Length: 30 km; Blankenheim at 471  m , Schuld at an altitude of 265  m )

Guilt - mouth of the Rhine at Remagen-Kripp

Between Schuld and Ahrbrück , the path leads, partly on the route of the disused railway line Dümpelfeld – Lissendorf , through a wide meadow valley. Dümpelfeld is passed where the Vulkan-Rad-Route Eifel branches off over the Vulkaneifel towards the Moselle . The route continues via Liers and Hönningen to Ahrbrück, today's end point of the Ahr Valley Railway coming from Remagen .

From Kreuzberg the most scenic route follows through the now deeply cut Ahr valley. The main road between Altenahr and Laach had to be used for a long time; Since 2015, a 1.7 kilometer long bike and footpath has been available for 3.7 million euros, which behind Altenahr uses the route of the northern track of the Ahr Valley Railway, which has been disused as far as Walporzheim, then partially cut into the slope, partially elevated and at Laach finally crossed the Ahr with a 47-meter-long cable-stayed bridge. The route also runs along the old railway line between Mayschoss and Rech and between Dernau and Walporzheim , so that a total of two tunnels and seven Ahr bridges have become a cycle path between Altenahr and Walporzheim.

Between Ahrweiler and Sinzig , the path mostly runs along the river bank. At Kripp the Ahr flows into the Rhine and the Ahr cycle path reaches the Rhine cycle path .

(Length: 50 km; Schuld at 265  m , Remagen-Kripp at 56  m height)

Connecting cycle paths

The three rivers tour Ahr, Erft, Rhein combines the three cycle routes Ahr-Radweg, Erft-Radweg and Rhein-Radweg to a 300 km long circuit. The Cologne-Trier railway line can be used between Blankenheim-Wald and Nettersheim . The Urft cycle path (approx. 40 km) also starts from the Blankenheim-Wald train station and leads to the Rurufer cycle path near Rurberg with little incline .

At the train station in Ahrdorf , the Kalkeifel cycle path branches off northwards into the Eifel and after 22 km reaches the Kylltal and the Kylltal cycle path near Hillesheim-Bolsdorf . On this route, after about 10 km in Niederehe, the Mineral Spring Route branches off as a further cross connection . The mineral spring route reaches Daun after approx. 24 km and thus connects the Ahr cycle path with the Maare-Mosel cycle path and the Liesertal . Both routes use former railway lines, so the gradients are very moderate.

The Vulkan-Rad-Route Eifel branches off from the Ahr-Radweg in Dümpelfeld and connects Ahr and Moselle via the Vulkaneifel . It ends in Bullay on the Moselle and meets the Moselle cycle path there . At the mouth of the Ahr into the Rhine, the Ahr Cycle Path meets the Rhine Cycle Path and the German Unity Cycle Path .
