German Unity Cycle Route

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Unity Cycle Path is a long- distance tourist cycle path that runs for a total of around 1,100 kilometers from Bonn through seven federal states to Berlin . On the one hand, it pursues the goal of illustrating the development process and the status of German unity. Another new goal is to provide cycle tourism with offers of digital information and to set up an infrastructure for electromobility for cyclists.

Emergence

The concept for the cycle path was developed in 2015 by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) in cooperation with the federal states on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of "German Unity". In 2016 the route was signposted. The route was planned in such a way that it uses the routes of already existing bike paths for longer distances .

Individual sections are being rebuilt, although not all gaps have been closed (as of March 27, 2017).

Route

The route is divided into five sections from Bonn via Gießen , Kassel , Goslar and Dessau to Berlin. A total of 20 stages are proposed:

Bonn – Giessen section

Gießen – Kassel section

Section Kassel – Goslar

Section Goslar – Dessau

Section Dessau – Berlin
