Pension (accommodation)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A guest house , also known as a guest room , is an accommodation facility that provides accommodation with limited services (compared to hotels).

definition

The classification of economic sectors WZ 2008 used in official statistics defines pensions as

“... the mostly short-term (daily or weekly) accommodation for guests. It includes accommodation in furnished accommodation such as guest rooms that is accessible to everyone. The units classified here offer daily bed making and cleaning of the rooms and only serve food and drinks to house guests. "

Characteristics

Some of them are operated by private renters , especially in tourist regions. A pension is usually a house with several guest rooms with simple furnishings. This distinguishes them from hotels, which are professional companies with the same purpose, but often with a higher standard . Pensions and hotels offer catering and accommodation services. The reception is typically not manned all the time. As guesthouses usually do not have their own kitchen , they usually only serve breakfast . They are usually cheaper than hotels and much more simply equipped. All kinds of services are reduced to room cleaning.

Often, long-term bookings are made ( rental from around a week). Therefore, pensions are often used by people who temporarily stay in a certain place for professional reasons, e.g. B. assembly workers , representatives or for a term employed university lecturers . The prices for an overnight stay in Central Europe range between 20 and 50 euros for a room.

Occurrence

In 2002 there were 5,506 pensions in Germany with an average of 25.4 beds per establishment. In December 2011 there were 5,705 commercial pensions with more than eight beds in Germany.

Classification

The German Hotel and Restaurant Association , in cooperation with the German Tourism Association (DTV), classifies pensions within the framework of the “German classification for guest houses, inns and pensions” (“G classification”).
