Half board

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Half board is the name for a type of board during a travel stay, such as in a hotel or a guesthouse .

definition

According to DIN EN ISO 18513 No. 2.4.3 , half board includes breakfast and either lunch or dinner in addition to accommodation . More often, dinner is offered instead of lunch. If all three meals are included, one speaks of full board (DIN EN ISO 18513 No. 2.4.4 ).

The relevant DIN EN ISO 18513 (terminology and definitions of tourism services) does not expressly state anything about beverages : Nos. 2.4.2 to 2.4.4 are limited to the listing of breakfast, lunch and dinner. Only in entry no. 2.4.5 for All Inclusive are drinks also described as content. According to no. 3.1.1, the simple breakfast should contain “at least bread, butter, jam and / or jam and a hot drink”. In the tourist area, an extended breakfast or a breakfast buffet with additional food and drinks is usually offered. Drinks for lunch or dinner are usually not included when booking half-board.

Some hotels also offer “half-board plus” meals. In addition to the services of the normal half-board, drinks can be included with the meal or a snack between meals.

Half-board is often abbreviated to H or HP in travel documents. There is, however, no uniform abbreviation.
