The German Tourism Association eV (DTV) is the German umbrella association of municipal, regional and national tourism organizations based in Berlin . The main purpose is lobbying for tourism in Germany . Among other things , the association is active in certification and coordination in the areas of quality tourism.

The approximately 100 members include national tourism organizations, city-states and regional tourism organizations. Cities, all municipal umbrella associations and supporting members - including ADAC and Deutsche Bahn AG - are also represented.

Presidium and Board of Directors

The four-member presidium is part of the board of the German Tourism Association. The board defines the strategy of the association and prepares resolutions and decisions for the general assembly. DTVS GmbH

Since 1970, the association has outsourced its commercial activities to a wholly-owned subsidiary, DTVS GmbH. This primarily carries out classifications, certifications and other quality projects as well as its own events on behalf of the DTV and thus generates its own income. Other sources of finance for the DTV are membership fees and specific project funds from the federal government. To carry out subject-specific projects, the DTV receives temporary and project-related funding from the respective federal ministries, especially from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

DTV Service GmbH has set itself the goal of "promoting sustainable quality tourism in Germany". To do this, it carries out the DTV classification of holiday homes, holiday apartments and private rooms, marinas and campsites. In addition, DTV Service GmbH also certifies tourist information centers in order to create a uniform quality seal for them throughout Germany.

Furthermore, DTV Service GmbH is the coordinator of the internal quality management system "ServiceQualität Deutschland". This quality management system is tailored to German service companies and aims to improve service. The DTV offers its members further services: These include advice on legal issues as well as sample contracts and framework agreements .

Tourism policy

The association calls for an improvement in the political framework for those involved in tourism in Germany . He is committed to the expansion and maintenance of municipal and regional tourist infrastructure . For example, the association is calling for the summer vacation regulations to be redesigned in order to make more even use of the vacation regions. He calls for better coordination of vacation dates and a total vacation time of 90 to 92 days in summer. Furthermore, securing the financing of tourism tasks is one of the political goals. With regard to a national tourism strategy agreed in the coalition agreement, the association has presented a requirements paper with 10 specific fields of action.

The association is not responsible for the external marketing of the destination Germany (attracting foreign guests). This task is carried out by the members of the DTV and the German National Tourist Board .

history

In 1902 the forerunner organization "Bund Deutscher Verkehrsvereine " was founded. The DTV contributed to the founding of the German National Tourist Board in Frankfurt am Main (1948) and the German Seminar for Tourism in Berlin (1961). Until it was renamed in 1999, it was known as the "German Tourist Association". In 2012 the association moved from Bonn to Berlin. In June 2019, Claudia Gilles handed over the management of the German Tourism Association to Norbert Kunz after 22 years.
