Railway stations in North Rhine-Westphalia |
Velbert Hauptbahnhof was the main station of the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Velbert and was on the Oberdüssel – Kettwig railway line . In addition to Miltenberg Hauptbahnhof and Solingen Hauptbahnhof (old) , Velbert Hauptbahnhof is one of the few disused main train stations in Germany.
history
Velbert Central Station was opened in 1925 under the name Velbert Ost when the Oberdüssel – Kettwig (Niederbergbahn) line was extended from Heiligenhaus to Essen-Kettwig . It was on the corner of Bahnhofstrasse and Güterstrasse.
The station had a central platform and was also operated as a freight station. The station facilities also included an interlocking that was dismantled in 1978.
The station building was opened in 1923 and sold in 1988. It currently houses a restaurant; Today there is a supermarket on the Bahnhofsplatz .
In 1960 passenger traffic was stopped. From then on, the station served exclusively for freight traffic until this was also discontinued in 1996.
On July 16, 2011 the panorama cycle path Niederbergbahn was opened on the old railway line.
Todays situation
Velbert-Mitte no longer has a rail connection today. The next train stations with SPNV are Velbert-Langenberg and Velbert-Neviges on the Wuppertal-Vohwinkel – Essen-Überruhr line ( S 9 ).
