The old Solingen main station is a former train station in Solingen . It was opened in 1890 under the name Bahnhof Solingen Süd , renamed Solingen Hbf in 1913 and shut down in 2006. The station in Solingen-Ohligs has been named Solingen Hauptbahnhof since December 2006 .

Today's urban area of Solingen received its first railway connection in 1867, when the branch line from Weyersberg to Ohligs on the Gruiten – Cologne-Mülheim railway line of the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft was opened, with the Ohligs-Wald station .

However, the Transport was mainly towards the Ruhr region with the opening of the corkscrew track improved considerably in 1890, the terminus was Solingen South the new route is much closer to the Solingen city center as the station in Weyersberg. The branch line from Ohligs was therefore soon extended to the Südbahnhof.

With the opening of the Remscheid – Solingen railway line in 1896/97, the significance of the railway station for transport increased, at which the trains on the new line also stopped. This fact was taken into account when the station was initially named Solingen and, after an expansion in 1913, was finally given the name Solingen Hauptbahnhof .

Since the closure of passenger traffic on the corkscrew railway in 1942, the station has only served the traffic on the route from Ohligs to Remscheid / Wuppertal and has increasingly lost its importance. In particular, the location away from traffic connections within Solingen was the subject of strong criticism on several occasions, and the structural condition of the station deteriorated increasingly up to its end. Until 1995, the section of the corkscrew railway to Solingen-Wald was operated by freight traffic, after which only connections in the area of the main station were approached.

As part of the modernization of the Remscheid – Solingen railway line and the Regional Railway in 2006 , it was decided to abandon the Solingen main train station and to set up two stations in the immediate vicinity, which should significantly improve traffic relations within Solingen. With the opening of the Solingen-Grünewald stop west of the main station on May 6, 2006, the old Solingen main station was therefore closed and left as an operating point, the trains only stopped at the new stop. The second station, Solingen Mitte station , which is located east of the former main station, was finally opened with the timetable change on December 10, 2006. On the same day, the station in Solingen- Ohligs was renamed Solingen Hauptbahnhof due to its importance as the city's most important train station .

The station building erected after the Second World War in place of the first building erected in 1910 and destroyed in 1944 is a listed building and is now used by various commercial facilities. The closed steel platform bridge has also been preserved. In addition to Miltenberg and Velbert , there is the rare case here that a central station went out of service.
