The Grevenbroich station is a crossing station , which is located at the intersection of the Rheydt – Cologne-Ehrenfeld railway and the Düren – Neuss railway .
Together with the bus lines of the Busverkehr Rheinland (BVR) that stop at the five individual stops in the forecourt of the station , the Grevenbroich station forms the hub in the Grevenbroich city area.
history
The first station building at Grevenbroich station was demolished after the Second World War, probably after the effects of the war. As a replacement, a new station building was built after the Second World War, which has been preserved to this day.
The area of the former freight station, which was located to the west of the platforms, has been massively dismantled in recent years, so that none of it is left today. Only a large fallow area gives an idea of the former extent.
With the commissioning of the ESTW Grevenbroich for the Rheydt-Ehrenfeld line in 2007, the Gnf and Gs signal boxes became superfluous, but are still there.
In the period from July to September 2012, the station was partially renovated. A new floor covering with a tactile guidance system for the visually impaired and the blind was implemented and the refurbishment of the entrance area implemented. The middle door of the entrance area was replaced by an automatic opening mechanism that enables wheelchair users and the disabled to reach the station without barriers. Deutsche Bahn invested around € 300,000 in this project.
