The Koblenz-Ehrenbreitstein station is the only station right bank of Rhineland-Palatinate city of Koblenz . It is located on the right stretch of the Rhine , at the foot of the Ehrenbreitstein in the district of the same name , directly on the Rhine .
history
In the years 1859 and 1860 the Prussian and Nassau governments agreed on the construction of a connecting route between Ehrenbreitstein and Oberlahnstein . In Oberlahnstein there was a connection to the Nassauische Rheinbahn and Lahntalbahn, which were under construction . In addition, it was contractually stipulated that a railway bridge should be built between Koblenz and Ehrenbreitstein, and the Duchy of Nassau undertook to promote the construction of the Lahn Valley Railway.
The Neuwied - Niederlahnstein section, and with it the Ehrenbreitstein station, went into operation on October 27, 1869. He owned a railway post office and a railway maintenance office . On the same day, the railway line from Ehrenbreitstein station over the Pfaffendorfer bridge to the former Rheinischer Bahnhof was opened. The Rheinische Bahnhof was northwest of today's Löhr-Center in Fischelstrasse. However, this railway line only existed until 1899. Then the bridge was used by the Coblenz tram company . A connection to the left stretch of the Rhine and to Koblenz Central Station , which opened in 1902, has existed since 1879 via the Horchheim railway bridge .

Until after the Second World War , Ehrenbreitstein station was also important for long-distance traffic, as some of the long-distance trains on the right-hand Rhine route did not serve Koblenz main station. In the last timetable before the outbreak of war, all express trains and one express train served the Ehrenbreitstein station.
In the event of operational disruptions in Koblenz main station, Ehrenbreitstein station serves as one of the alternative stations.
