Former companies
Energieversorgung Mittelrhein GmbH
In 1845, gas extracted from hard coal was used for the first time in Koblenz for street lighting . Up until the end of the 19th century, new applications for this type of energy continued to emerge - the supply network had to be expanded accordingly and eventually extended over several locations. The company Gasfernversorgung Mittelrhein , which was the forerunner of Energieversorgung Mittelrhein GmbH , was founded in 1928. It supplied gas in and around Koblenz. Your most important partner was the city of Koblenz with its own large gas factory. In 1934, which was remote gas supply means Rhine in GmbH Energieversorgung Mittelrhein renamed. In the same year she took over responsibility for the Koblenz-Oberwerth waterworks .
Due to the devastating destruction in the Second World War , the gas supply in and around Koblenz collapsed. The company's own gas production was not rebuilt and from 1946 gas was transported from outside through high-pressure pipes into the city. It will take many years to rebuild the supply networks.
The coke oven gas , which is produced by gasifying coal and causes harmful emissions , was replaced by natural gas at EVM in 1970. In the following twenty years the number of connections from cities and municipalities to the EVM network doubled. In April 1989, EVM moved into a new company and administration building on Ludwig-Erhard-Strasse in Koblenz. This means that all departments work under one roof. In 1994, the first natural gas filling station in Rhineland-Palatinate went into operation on the EVM site .
In 2008, Bioenergieproduktion Koblenz GmbH (BEE) was founded as a subsidiary. The company not only built bio natural gas systems, the business also included the purchase, generation, transport and sale of this regenerative energy. The EVM participated in the promotion of natural gas vehicles and the construction of natural gas filling stations. Since December 2009, EVM has been involved in Thüga AG , a network of municipal energy suppliers in Germany, through the KOM 9 bidding consortium . This made EVM a one hundred percent municipal company.
In 2011 the construction of a bio natural gas plant began at Boppard . Also in 2011, EVM took a stake in Thüga Erneuerbare Energien GmbH & Co. KG , which intends to invest 1 billion euros in wind projects by 2020. In the same year, the conversion to green electricity from hydropower took place . In March 2012, two wind farms belonging to THEE were opened in the Hunsrück. On July 1, 2012, the company switched all of its natural gas filling stations to bio natural gas.
