history

The Löhr Center is located in an area that was largely destroyed in the heavy air raids in World War II. The railway barracks of the field artillery regiment No. 23 were located on the site . A building of the former Prussian provisions store had survived the war there. It was demolished in 1969 after a fire. The area, right next to the Sacred Heart Church , was then only used as a parking lot. The large area offered itself for the construction of the first large inner-city shopping center.

After Hohenfelderstrasse was built in 1969, the foundation stone was laid on September 16, 1982. The Löhr-Center opened on February 23, 1984 and was one of the first shopping centers of its kind in Germany. Between 1993 and 1994 it was structurally expanded and optimized. In the years 2006 to 2008 the lighting was changed / optimized and numerous other renovation measures were taken.

For the 2011 Federal Horticultural Show , the Koblenz Stadtmitte stop was opened directly behind the Löhr-Center on the left stretch of the Rhine .

After the anchor tenant Globus left the Löhr Center in early 2015, the two-storey retail space was divided. As the new anchor tenant , Rewe moved into the completely renovated space on the first floor . At the beginning of 2016, Zara was announced as the new tenant for the area on the ground floor. In addition, an extensive refurbishment for the entire Löhr Center was announced, the investment volume will amount to € 31 million and completion is scheduled for spring 2017. There is talk of the most extensive renovation work since the center opened.
