Location of the railway barracks in Rhineland-Palatinate

The railway barracks in Koblenz , also called "Fischelkaserne" or "Rote Artilleriekaserne", was a property of the royal Prussian army in the fortress of Koblenz .

history

Between 1887 and 1889, an elongated, three-story barracks building was built next to the provisions office in Fischelstraße 18 to accommodate parts of the 2nd Rhenish Field Artillery Regiment No. 23 . Since Fischelstrasse was temporarily renamed Eisenbahnstrasse because of the Rheinbahnhof in the immediate vicinity, the barracks were finally given the official name "Eisenbahnkaserne". The building was designed for a covered unit in a functional construction, the horse stables were on the ground floor, the accommodations were on the two floors above. In 1894 the 1st battery and the regimental staff were moved into the building, with the staff receiving a telephone connection for the first time.

After the First World War , the city took over the barracks building and set up the vocational school here . During the bombing of the Second World War , the district around Fischelstrasse and with it the barracks were completely destroyed. The ruins were torn down and built over again. Today the Löhr-Center is located on the site of the former railway barracks. The Fischelstrasse has disappeared in this area and only a small section is preserved.
