On the way from Ehrenbreitstein to Koblenz

The Rhine ferry Koblenz runs on the Rhine in Koblenz at Rhine kilometer 592 and connects the old town at the level of the former Koblenzer Hof with the Ehrenbreitstein district .

history

The Koblenz ship bridge served at the same location from 1819 to 1945 and, after its destruction in 1945, a makeshift bridge until 1947 and since then until the construction of the Pfaffendorfer Bridge in 1953, a car ferry connected the two banks. Since then, the passenger ferry Schängel , built in 1953, has taken over the connection at the same point. The passenger ferry is named after the Koblenz rascal Schängel .

Ferry today

The ferry connection has been a partner in the Rhein-Mosel transport association (VRM) since April 1, 2012 . This makes travel costs cheaper for those who use the transport links on the right bank of the Rhine from the city center or who want to go from the right bank of the Rhine to the city center. The Rhineland-Palatinate tickets are also recognized. Until the end of 2015, the ferry operator was Hans-Jörg Kraeber. Since Easter 2016 the ferry has been operated by the shipping company Gilles, Vallendar . The new operator has announced that it will extend the operating hours and omit the previous day of rest on Monday. The ferry service has so far been in the months of April to October from Tuesday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The ferry is also ideal for people who shy away from taking the Koblenz cable car .

In Koblenz there are two other ferry connections, the Moselle ferry Koblenz-Lay and the passenger ferry Liesel at the Deutsches Eck.
