List of Rhine ferries
The list of Rhine ferries names ferry connections on the Rhine or on its estuary .
meaning
Relatively few bridges span the Rhine , since their construction is very complex and expensive due to the largely considerable width of the Rhine and the need to allow Rhine shipping . The steep banks in the area of the Middle Rhine, which is protected as a world cultural heritage , make construction more difficult. Therefore the bridges are concentrated in relatively few places, mainly in the big cities like Duisburg , Düsseldorf , Cologne , Bonn , Koblenz , Mainz / Wiesbaden , Mannheim / Ludwigshafen and Karlsruhe . In addition, many bridges run in the course of motorways or railways , some of which require long detours or are not usable for some road users. That is why the Rhine ferries still have their raison d'etre, especially for business and excursion traffic.
