Grossbasel (colloquially with the article : Grossbasel ) is the name of the left Rhenish district of the Swiss city ​​of Basel .

Grossbasel comprises the quarters Iselin , St. Johann , Gotthelf , Gundeldingen , Bachletten , Bruderholz , Breite , St. Alban , Am Ring , the suburbs and the old town of Grossbasel .

The old town with the minster on the minster hill and around the market square with the town hall from the 14th century is the actual center of Basel.

The Greater Basel on the left bank of the Rhine is connected to the Klein Basel on the right bank of the Rhine by a railway bridge , five road bridges and four passenger ferries .
