Rolandseck is a district of the city of Remagen in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Ahrweiler . It belongs to the Oberwinter district . On December 31, 2018, Rolandseck had 516 residents (excluding secondary residences ).

Geography and traffic

Rolandseck extends as a street village along the federal highway 9 between Oberwinter in the south and Rolandswerth in the north. In terms of natural space, Rolandseck can be assigned to the Honnef valley widening of the Middle Rhine , which is characterized on the left bank of the Rhine by a steep bank up to 100 m high, opposite to which is a much wider, crescent-like widened valley area on the right bank of the Rhine. While Rolandseck in the south is delimited by the industrial areas of the Oberwinterer shipyard , there is a flowing transition after Rolandswerth - the boundary is marked by the Rolandswerther Bach . The railway line on the left bank of the Rhine runs on the western edge of the village , above which the residential buildings are still up to 90  m above sea level. NHN extends. At the level of the Rolandseck train station is the docking point on the left bank of the Rhine for the car ferry that crosses to the Bad Honnef district of Lohfeld . Only the trains of the Central Rhine Railway of the SPNV stop at the aforementioned station . North-east of Rolandseck is the southern end of the island of Nonnenwerth .

Rolandseck (1857)

Rolandseck is located on the north and above the village castle rolandseck named in the 12th century by the archbishop of Cologne I. Friedrich was built. As a village, Rolandseck only appeared in official statistics and maps from the beginning to the middle of the 19th century. It belonged to the municipality of Oberwinter in the administrative district of the mayor's office in Remagen , a few houses on the northern edge of the district belonged to the municipality of Rolandswerth.

In the course of the romanticism of the Rhine and the emergence of steam shipping , numerous villas and stately homes were built on the then Provinzialstraße , which gave the district its present-day appearance. These included some hotel buildings, the better known being the Hotel Rolandseck-Groyen , the Hotel Billau (later Rheingold-Bellevue ), the Düsseldorfer Hof and the Krefelder Hof . With the opening of the Rolandseck train station , built from 1856 to 1858 , a cultural and social center, tourism gained further importance. At the end of the 19th century there was a Jewish cemetery in Rolandseck . The ferry between Rolandseck and Bad Honnef goes back to a yaw cable ferry operated at the same point since the end of the 19th century .

After Bonn became the seat of government of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1949 , a large part of the administrative staff of the French high commission came to Rolandseck - mostly in three hotels. In 1955 the Soviet Union set up its embassy in the former Hotel Rolandseck-Groyen on the northern edge of Rolandseck ( Rolandswerth district ). In 1975 it was moved to the Viktorshöhe in Bonn . From autumn 1952 to spring 1962, the Order of St. John had its seat in Rolandseck ( Haus Sölling ) due to its proximity to Bonn . In the post-war period, Rolandseck transformed into an industrial and commercial district and, among other things, experienced an extensive residential complex on the Rhine front Growth of population.

In 2004 a helicopter landing pad was set up below the Rolandseck train station west of the B 9 .

  • Wildpark Rolandseck : Above and southwest of Rolandseck covers an area of 350,000 sqm Wildpark Rolandseck .
  • Villas : On the B 9, and above the railway line are some listed houses from the second half of the 19th century, including the 1858 to 1860 according to a design by architect Julius Raschdorff resulting house Sölling .
