Remagen is the most populous local district and the core area of ​​the city of the same name Remagen in the Ahrweiler district of Rhineland-Palatinate .

Remagen is located on the northern Middle Rhine opposite the municipality of Erpel on the right bank of the Rhine on the northern edge of the Golden Mile , a fertile valley that extends as far as Bad Breisig . In the course of the Rhineland-Palatinate municipal and administrative reform, the city of Remagen (then 7,876 inhabitants) and the previously independent municipalities of Oberwinter (3,327 inhabitants), Oedingen (368), Rolandswerth (923) and Unkelbach (853 ) and from these the present-day city of Remagen was rebuilt.

The four previously independent municipalities, the previous district of Kripp and the core town of Remagen itself were each designated as local districts.

Remagen is one of six local districts of the city and includes the area of ​​the district of Remagen without Kripp. The district is politically represented by a local advisory board and a local mayor .

The local council consists of 13 members, who were elected in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a personalized proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Mayor

Wilfried Humpert (FBL) became mayor of Remagen on August 21, 2019. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was elected for five years with 57.07% of the vote.

Humpert's predecessor Walter Köbbing (CDU) had held the office for ten years.
